Starkville Arts Walk

Downtown Starkville, Maps and tour guides available at the GSDP Office, 200 E. Main St., 662-323-3322

This Arts Walk is a self-guided walking tour starting in the Cotton District through downtown Starkville. Visit businesses that feature the work of local artists in their stores. You can also visit historical buildings and neighborhoods, the community theatre, and farmers market.

Candle Making

Tour the Aspen Bay Candle Company and see how candles are hand-poured. Tours are offered to groups of ten or more by appointment. Also visit the gift shop in the Cotton Crossing Shopping Center at 500 Russell Street, #12, Starkville.

Blues Trail

Gain an appreciation for the area that gave birth to blues music by following the Mississippi Blues Trail. A number of blues trail markers in northeastern Mississippi are an easy drive from Starkville.

Historic Buildings and Points of Interest

See three buildings at Mississippi State University that are on both the list of Mississippi Landmark Buildings and the National Register of Historic Places along with 15 others of historic or architectural significance. View a virtual tour, Landmark Buildings at Mississippi State; then take to the campus sidewalks and see each one firsthand.

Aquaculture Research

Learn about catfish farming and freshwater shrimp research at the MSU Aquaculture Research Facility, which includes over 80 ponds, a fish holding facility, and a hatchery. By appointment only.

Dairy Science Building and Cheese Factory

Herzer Building, 945 Stone Boulevard, Mississippi State University Campus, (662) 325-3200

A guided tour showcases the making of Mississippi State University cheese. Cheese products, salsa, peanut butter, peanuts, and MSU-produced ice cream are sold in the gift shop. Tours are offered by appointment for groups only.
