By Mississippi's College Town · Comments (0)
Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Did y’all see the coverage of National Signing Day that Mississippi State Athletics put together yesterday? What a top notch way to welcome the signees to the Bulldog family! Of course, it got us all excited about football again even though it’s only February! Just to whet your appetite a little further, we were driving through campus and couldn’t resist some snaps of Davis Wade. Even in winter, it’s great to celebrate OUR State!

Holiday Bazaar: One Delicious Local Vendor

By Mississippi's College Town · Comments (0)
Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

The 39th Annual Holiday Bazaar is underway at the Starkville Sportsplex! Last night’s Preview Party was great fun with shoppers getting a first look at over 90 vendors and a taste of some scrumptious goodies. We had the chance to sit down with one of our local vendors to find out why they enjoy participating in the Bazaar each year.

The Oxford Falls line of gourmet sauces and mixes are the work of Jim and Kathy Mosier. From salad dressings and bloody mary mixes to salsas, marinades and dry rubs, the line is produced and bottled right here in Starkville. Jim was kind enough to answer of couple of questions about the company. Be warned; this is gonna make you hungry!

Oxford Falls is produced in Starkville. Tell us the two-sentence story of how your company began.
It originated as part of our restaurant, The District Cafe. We began creating our own sauces there, and in 1996, closed the restaurant to pursue developing the products full-time.

So, all your products are bottled here in Starkville. How many are bottled each year?
Yes, we bottle everything right on Louisville Street. We usually produce about 7500 bottles each year and ship to 37 states and a few foreign countries!

You’ve said you only do two retail shows each year. Why do you choose the annual Holiday Bazaar in Starkville?
Well, we like to support our local community. That’s why we bottle here. The Bazaar gives us a chance to renew relationships with old friends and to promote our items for the local shops who carry our lines.

If we’re looking for help with our holiday cooking, which of your products would you recommend?
Any of our finishing sauces! The Raspberry Chipotle and the Three Pepper Peach are our two most popular. And don’t forget the Bloody Mary mix for the after-party!

Care to share a recipe for the holiday table or snack counter?
We have several on our website! Try our Raspberry-Chipotle Brownies for a dessert table kick!

1 Box Duncan Hines Fudge Brownie Mix 2 Eggs 1/4 Cup Water !/2 Cup Oxford Falls Raspberry/Chipotle Sauce

Follow Brownie instructions on back of box. Instead of using oil, replace with Raspberry/Chipotle Sauce. Mix as directed. You do not have to adjust baking time. However, doneness=fudginess. Cooking longer makes for drier Brownies. For those curious, add 1/4 cup jalapenos-chopped. Optional-sprinkle powdered sugar on warm brownies as a garnish!

Well, we can always count on the Mosier’s for a surprising (and delicious) concoction!

Oxford Falls products are available locally from Main Street members Aspen Bay, Occasions and Thyme, and from Giggleswick and Mac- B’s. They may also be purchased online from Mississippi-based Mississippi Gift Company, or visit the Oxford Falls website for other retailers.

Stop by the Oxford Falls booth in the entry hallway of the 39th Annual Holiday Bazaar today or tomorrow to pick up some of their selections. If you’re good, Jim and Kathy may share the recipe for those Chocolate Rolo Pretzels they served at last night’s Preview!
