Foley Bell Holditch, owner of Starkville Main Street member, Thyme, recently sat down with us to dish about the inspiration behind her store and the great things they offer Downtown shoppers.

1. How did Thyme come to be and what was your inspiration?
My husband and I have always enjoyed cooking and entertaining. We have attended the Viking Cooking School several times in the past with my family. After a trip to Italy several years ago, my mother and I started pulling ideas together to open a kitchen and entertaining store in Starkville.

2. What is your favorite item currently for sale in the store and why?
French Bluish green Bon Bon Jars – The color on these old jars are is gorgeous. They are perfect for mantles or to set on top of a piece of furniture.

3. What kind of classes does Thyme offer & can people schedule special events if they wish?
We have a variety of classes lined up for the Fall. We will have everything from Sushi to date night with fresh quail. We also have Martha Foose, author of A Southerly Course, coming to visit in October for a cookbook signing and demonstration. Le Creuset will host a demonstration in October as well. 4. Can you share a recipe with that uses a product currently sold at Thyme?

3 Pepper Blast Dip
1 -  8 oz. block of cream cheese softened
1 -  8 oz. bag of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
3 Pepper Blast Dip

Mix all of the ingredients in food processor until creamy and serve with your favorite crackers. This dip is so easy to make and is perfect for tailgating.

5. What were you trying to evoke with the store’s beautiful décor, and did Simply Home and Bell Building Supply help with the choices and materials?
My mother and I were inspired by our trip to Italy. All of the businesses and homes we visited during our stay in Tuscany had a warm, inviting environment. This welcoming environment is what we wanted for our store.  We love rustic, old world charm.  We included many of the existing features of the old warehouse in the new store.  For example, we discovered the old vault’s beautiful entrance.  The vault became our area for glassware, gourmet products, and barware.  The old beams, columns, and brick walls also added a European atmosphere.  The end result was a collaboration of all Bell entities.
