Spring Break Fashion Tips from Deep South Pout

By Mississippi's College Town · Comments (0)
Monday, March 5th, 2012

Next week is Spring Break in Mississippi’s College  Town, y’all! We caught up with the lovely ladies of Main Street member, Deep South Pout to find out their TOP TEN tips for exuding fashionista cuteness whether you’re staying home or off to parts unknown. Check them out, take a look at the slide show and head Downtown for a peek at the Pout!

DEEP SOUTH POUT’S Top Ten Trends for Spring Break Style:

  1. Bright Fun colors!  Bright in-your-face colors are everywhere this spring! Colored skinny jeans–this is all the rage this spring/summer; if you don’t have a pair, you’ll regret it everyday!
  2. Color Blocking! For those of you who haven’t jumped on the color-blocking wagon yet…it’s a confident way to pair together solid bright colors without mixing patterns! Don’t forget how easy color-blocking is with our FAB seamless wear!! You can take a plain yellow top and add a pop of orange under it with our fun bright seamless!
  3. Neutral flats or wedges! With all these bright colors and color-blocking trends you MUST grab a pair for neutral wedges or flats! Must Must Must!
  4. White is here… yep.. even before Easter! I know, I know…you southern women are freaking out at the thought of breaking out the white skinnies before “time”! That rule is long gone! Grab those white skinnies and bright fun wedges or flats and hit the town!
  5. Have fun with layering! Wether you are taking a dress thats a little too short and pairing ‘em with a fun skinny jean, or you love to layer colorful seamless with a fab pattern! Layering is a MUST!
  6. Romantic prints and trends! Be on the look out for more ruffles, pleats and lace!! The soft romantic ruffle look is everywhere this spring!  Whether it’s a top with lace with a floral pattern or a soft pleated top! The soft and sweet look is huge this season!
  7. Bold graphics!! We are more than obsessed with chevron prints this season! Look for attention-getting geometric prints!! If you haven’t grabbed a chevron print dress or top yet…just walk down Main Street, you’ll find ‘em!
  8. Our favorite trend without a doubt is the Urban Boho trend! The Urban Boho trend is so fun! Mixing a hippie chic and gypsy boho clothing and jewelry for a fun carefree, less-than-polished everyday look! Whether it’s a Blu Gertrude headband or vintage key necklace, Urban Boho is here to stay!
  9. Be on the look out for bold pastels! If you aren’t in love with the bright in-your-face color trends, you can still color block with pastels! Think Tiffany-blue skinnies and a daffodil top! They are soon to be everywhere! Polish off your look with pastel nail color–whether soft yellow, lavender, or cotton candy pink–you’ll definitely be on trend!
  10. Lastly, hi-gloss/sleek metallics add carefree luxe to any outfit. Dress up your white skinnies with a chic shimmery top and a must-have patterned clutch. Finish off the look by layering your fav dainty necklaces and bangles.

If that’s not enough, be on the lookout, because Deep South Pout is also just a few weeks away from their store grand opening in Columbus, MS!  We’re proud that they are expanding to our neighboring city with more ways to grab the gypsy feel we’ve all come to love in Downtown Starkville. Also, launching on April 1 is their new website and blog!  You’ll be able to shop right from your couch without even calling! Congratulations to DSP! We’re proud you call Downtown Starkville home!

It’s Never Too Cool for FROYO!

By Mississippi's College Town · Comments (0)
Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Some of these Spring temps we’ve been experiencing lately have us thinking FROYO! Starkville’s hottest spot for frozen yogurt these days is Main Street member, Local Culture located in the Cotton Crossing Shopping Center on Russell Street. They offer a funky presentation of the cool concoction with a serve yourself wall of yogurt and fun toppings. You’ll frequently find live musicians in the corner and friendly faces at the counter, all in a colorful and fun atmosphere. The fact that frozen yogurt is a healthy alternative to those ice cream cravings is, well, icing. We recently spoke with Bart Smith, the owner of Local Culture, about the business’ overwhelming success after just over a year in business.

What made you want to open up Local Culture Frozen Yogurt?
“The product. Yogurt is a healthy alternative to ice cream. It’s amazing.”

Time to ‘fess up! What is your favorite yogurt?
” Ha! My favorite yogurt would be the California Tart with strawberries and granola topping.”

Share a combination for people to try.
“There are so many flavors and toppings to choose from. We have the basic flavors such as Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry, as well as Raspberry, Kiwi, and Birthday Cake. The White Chocolate Mousse yogurt is one of the most popular.”

Local Culture has been in business for a little over a year now. What do you think keeps people coming back?
Well, it starts with a top-notch product. But, this is more than a place that sell yogurt. It’s a place to hang out, listen to good music. It’s an overall a positive environment. It’s also in a great location.

So, what is one “secret” to your success?
The employees make Local Culture. They love their job. It really makes a difference for the customers.

Yum! Gotta go get some of that California Tart. What’s YOUR favorite Local Culture combo?
